Hi Greg,
Thanks for your replay.
I did it. Everything was OK.
Cntr+Alt+Bs don't work anymore.
;) Absent flag "DontZap" "off".
I will try to use this for awhile and give respond after next freeze.

Maxim.

It didn't help.
After reconfiguring and restarting computer freezing not finished.

I found that xserver often freeze if computer was locked by timeout. Sometimes it ask password but after resume show only background without any panels. Sometimes it don't ask password it all, just freeze.
If I Suspend or Hibernate it resume normally.

I am using now only 3 programs: FireFox, Nautilus and terminal.

Answers on questions:
How complete is the X failure?
+ Does ctrl+alt+f1 take you to a console? NO
+ Does ctrl+alt+backspace restart X? When frozen NO in normal situation Yes
+ Does mouse pointer still move? USUALLY YES
+ Does the keyboard LED come on when hitting the CAPSLOCK key? YES
+ Can you ssh into the system from another computer? I don't have possibility to test it now but I will.

I used this:
When the crash occurs, press Alt+SysRq+1 (one, not L) followed by Alt+SysRq+t. If using a text console, you should see a trace dumped to the screen. If the system is sufficiently alive, it will also be logged to /var/log/kern.log and visible in the output from dmesg.

In this time xserver was completely frozen (mouse disappear). After this keys I used Cntrl-Alt-Del.
in attached file fragment of kern.log for current run.

Max, unfortunately none of these files show an error message or backtrace. No troubleshooting can begin until we know what the error is.

Perhaps they are in one of your files in /var/log/gdm/. Look in your :0.log.1, :0.log.2, etc. to see if it indicates an error.

The kernel is calling the "Out of Memory killer", "oom_kill_process". This means that your system has catastrophically run out of memory for some reason. This is not an Xorg bug, so I'm refiling to Ubuntu for better triaging.

Meanwhile, look into why you would be running out of memory. Are you running a program that uses too much memory? Is your hardware memory bad? Do you have enough of it? There are various programs, like 'top', which you can use to display memory usage and watch the memory use of different processes so you can learn which package has the fault.

Good luck!

Hi Bryce,
yesterday night i reinstall jaunty. I installed Alpha3 with hope that back will disappear. But It is not.
Now I have system by default except: I removed games, and install: CompizConfig Setting manager, and Gnome SWF player.
I left computer turn on overnight and at morning It was frozen. It show black screen but monitor wasn't switch off. In my power management I turn on screensaver after 10 min idl with screen lock and switch off monitor in 11 minutes.
It don't have mouse, don't ask password, it didn't respond on Alt+SysRq+R with following Cntr+Alt+Del.
after this I pressed Alt+SysRq+R1tseiub. It saved log and reboot.
In log absent messages out of memory but I don't know when it freeze really.
I will try to look on memory using.
I have now 3Gb memory.

Thanks

I installed Ubuntu 8.1 on Lenovo T500. It is randomly crash too. If ubuntu 9.04 after crash can save report (Alt+SysRg+1, t) and can be rebooted by (Alt+SysRg+RSEIUB) than ubuntu 8.1 just crash with blinking CapsLk.
Ubuntu 8.1 can be rebooted only by switch of power (Press and hold power button).

I have the same effect: randomly freezes. Today I had to do a reboot by switch of power (Press and hold power button).
I was running 9.04 32-bit alpha-4 to rc without problems.
After I was switching to 9.04 64-bit and it run ok. since two days I have this regurarly system freezes. I don't have a sure way to reproduce it, as it may happen during any situation (working by terminal, ...)

Today I had again a crash after about 30mins, only using FF. The computer was in the same state as the day before (suspended during night). After rebooting and comtinuing surfing, it crashed again. Today no flashing of Caps-Lock and Num-Lock

Sometimes after a reboot, I have the following behaviour of the network manager:
