Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-wacom

When I unplug my wacom bamboo drawing tablet from the USB port in jaunty, X reboots. This used to happen in the Intrepid alphas (kernel 2.6.27) but was fixed before its final release so it's a regression.

ubuntu 9.04 alpha
kernel 2.6.28-5
xserver-xorg-input-wacom 1:0.8.1.6-1ubuntu4

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt. Thanks in advance

Attached is xorg.conf: I've only got settings relevant to nvidia in there and some mouse definition (I copied xorg.conf from a working Hardy installation and added the IgnoreABI server flag option so that it would boot with the nvidia 180.22 module).

I booted without the xorg.conf file, confirmed that nvidia wasn't running (at least I confirmed there were no compiz effects working) and plugged the wacom in and then removed it.

This time the kernel crashed - X froze, and I couldn't even ssh in from another machine.

The Xorg.0.log from this attempt is attached. Oddly, it seems to load at least one of the 180.22 nvidia libraries.

Here is the xorg log file from the original attempt with nvidia drivers loaded, where X simply crashed and I got back to the login screen. It shows the wacom module being loaded and unloaded.

The crash shouldn't happen with the latest upstream version (0.8.2.2), which is not yet in Ubuntu

I don't have wacom-tools installed, but the latest xserver-xorg-input-wacom 1:0.8.1.6-1ubuntu5 package has fixed the bug.
