[jaunty] MythbuntuControlCentre hangs when installing VNC service

Can you please post the contents of these two commands:

ls -alh /root/.vnc

ls -alh $HOME/.vnc

So we can see what about your situation is causing the failure? I was able to do this fine on a fresh install.

I upgraded the packages today and I didn't get any errors when turning on the VNC service via MCC. A 'passwd' file exists in /root/.vnc/, and ~/.vnc doesn't exist. After restarting the computer I can't see any vnc service running and I can't connect via VNC. If I run x11vnc manually, I can connect via VNC to the computer but it doesn't seem to pick up the password in /root/.vnc/passwd.

Hi Thomas:

So x11vnc only starts in the the 'mythbuntu' gdm session. Are you using
that session?

I would guess so. I haven't changed anything from the installed defaults, where mythbuntu does auto-login to the user account setup in the installer and then starts mythfrontend.real automatically. I'm not sure when x11vnc is supposed to be started. The only evidence I can see of enabling the VNC service in MCC is the file /root/.vnc/passwd; there is no vnc process running anywhere after the computer does auto-login to mythfrontend.real.

Just did a fresh install and enabled it via ubiquity no trouble, so the session.sh is working. next question then is

what's ~/.dmrc look like for you?

$ cat .dmrc

[Desktop]
Session=mythbuntu

Ok, then the next logical thing is the permissions on /root

Can you show ls -alhR /root ?

Ah yes. /root is only readable by root...

I think we need to set up this code then to copy to $HOME for jaunty, and
then for karmic write to home by default.
