Bug Description

Since I was experimenting problems with the fonts (bug 35059 and bug 25584), I did:

dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig

where I chose the default options.

Now I get:

manu@~ $ xfontsel
Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion
Warning: Unable to load any usable fontset

The funny thing is that xfontsel uses the same strange font it was using before doing dpkg-reconfigure.

My xfontsel has also just started doing this post an edgy update.
Having said this everything else seems to be working fine!

(I'm in en_GB and I know there are other en_GB that have had this working, so it's not all of us!)

I started getting this when I upgraded from dapper to edgy.

Possibly related to #70740 & # 73602?

I think this is another duplicate of bug #63408.

I added the paths in
http://librarian.launchpad.net/4860914/diff
to my xorg.conf file and restarted gdm. This fixed the problems I reported in bugs #73602 and #70740 (which were reclassified as duplicates of #63408) --- and it also fixed this problem.
