there is a folder "Kodak DX3600". If i click on it, the url is:
system:/media/camera/camera
and there is a File "Kodak DX3600".
If i click on it, i get this error:

Beim Laden von system:/media/camera/camera/camera ist folgender Fehler aufgetreten:

I can confirm this with my Kodak DX7590. Gthumb will import photos from this camera, but digiKam recognizes it, but doesn't allow me to import the photos.

I have very similar behaviour with my Canon Power Shot A70

Plug in and switch on and click OK to "USB Imaging Interface - KDE Daemon" dialog
(open in new window default)

system:/media/camera is opened with Canon PowerShot A70 folder

clicking on this folder gives url of :-
system:/media/camera/camera with an unknown file called the same as previous folder

clicking on this file gives an "Unknow error Bad parameters" message with the following as the url
system:/media/camera/camera/camera

Also when the camera is switched on a desktop icon "USB Imaging Interface" appears with Base URL: camera:/
Clicking on this icon takes me to konqeror with "media:/camera" containing the same folder as above (camera name) but clicking on the folder does nothing.

But "camera:/" gives the same directory name and clicking on this gives me access to a dcim folder with contains others '###CANON' which in turn contains the potos.

But digiKam works a treat after adding the camera, and the gnome system seems to work OK too but only a little testing on these two.

I have the same bug:
Kubuntu 6.06
KDE 3.5.2
camera Canon A520

I would like to note that this bug is annoying for new Linux users. They just see that their camera does not work with Linux.

Now it opens camera://USB PTP Class Camera@[usb:002,002]/

On Feisty, this works correctly, on Edgy I get an error message:
"Could not read file Could not claim the USB device."

The problem appears to be related to the user's authorization level. I get the same error with my Canon A70 but not when I start Digikam as /root!

Method:
Open a Konsole window and type "sudo digikam" (without the quotes). Agree to all the prompts, etc. and Digikam will operate as expected.

Downloaded photos will, by default, be in the directory
/root/Pictures/... Move them (as root) to where you want!

Is this still an issue in gutsy? By the comments, it looks like it may have been fixed in feisty...

Maybe digikam should be default? The digikam integration on plugging in a kamera is nice.

My Canon PowerShot A520 does not work correctly in Feisty. I have a feeling that it works differently in 6.04, 6.10 and 7.04.

Currently, in Feisty, I either receive strange errors, or I connect to the camera, but the connection is very, very slow.

"camera:/" worked well in 6.04, did not work in 6.10, in 7.04 it works if it is executed as root. As Geoff said, it must be authorization issue.

Digikam could download pictures in each Kubuntu version tested by me, but I prefer to use Konqueror for downloading.

Also a kodak DX3600 and the following message worked pefrectly until last automatic update now its gone west leaving the following dirty footprint.
An error occurred in the io-library ('Bad parameters'): Could not find USB device (vendor 0x40a, product 0x510). Make sure this device is connected to the computer.
Someone must have some ideas about this

moz, that's a different bug, sounds like a lower level issue. Does anyone still have the problem as described in the bug report in Feisty or Gutsy?
