Bug Description

I am missing many emails at present that ARE present in the data file for that folder. file is volvo, I have deleted all volvo.* files in case the meta stuff is corrupted.

I did wipe Inbox* to resolve another inconsistency during an upgrade.

I upgrade dapper regularly, so this is this appears to be related to about March 29.

Suggestions to recover would be nice :-)

Thanks for your comments. While this could be bug related, I'm not sure we can gather information of how the bug happened. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, however it might make more sense to raise your question at http://launchpad.net/support - I will close the bug here and thank you for taking care.

Sorry, I might have misunderstood your bug - Did you have the problems before you deleted those files? Could you run
CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution
and post the output in an attachment?

At the time this broke that I started this I played with preferences.

I ticked the mail preferences - junk - include remote tests. I probably do not have all tools installed.

I did check the junk folder previously but I could not see any new mail there then.

Snip beginning of the log attached:

CalDAV Eplugin starting up ...

(evolution:5568): evolution-mail-WARNING **: ignored this junk plugin: not enabled or we have already loaded one

(evolution:5568): e-utils-WARNING **: Plugin 'Spamassassin junk plugin' failed to load hook 'org.gnome.evolution.mail.junk:1.0'

(evolution:5568): camel-WARNING **: camel_exception_get_id called with NULL parameter.

I'm happy you have your mails back... does it work too, if you just run it normally?

Perhaps a topic change is in order. The option to set

evolution -> mail preferences -> Junk -> include remote tests

This should not be possible unless the tools to support it are installed. If I got trapped then a newbie would get trapped as well. Alternatively on startup it should switch the option off if it does not have supporting plugins.

I've just seen something similar to this. After an upgrade all messages were being marked as junk, I did not have remote tests enabled.

Curiously, disabling junk tests and the reenabling them seems to have fixed the problem.

However I still see this in the log:

concordia ~$ evolution
CalDAV Eplugin starting up ...

(evolution-2.6:20176): evolution-mail-WARNING **: ignored this junk plugin: not enabled or we have already loaded one

(evolution-2.6:20176): e-utils-WARNING **: Plugin 'Spamassassin junk plugin' failed to load hook 'org.gnome.evolution.mail.junk:1.0'

could you resume what the issue is exactly? is that due to the "include remote tests" option?

I had the same issue, it's this:

in the latest evo packages for dapper, there's a bug that makes "evolution -> mail preferences -> Junk -> include remote tests" behave badly.

previously it didn't do anything, but now it marks all incoming mail as junk, and hides it for some reason. all your email will be hidden until you uncheck the box and restart evo. your hidden mail will be visible in the junk folder.

the checkbox dos seem to do something when the right tools are installed (spamassasin, bogofilter, I don't know?), but noone knows what exactely.

so general conclusion: don't check the "evolution -> mail preferences -> Junk -> include remote tests" box. junk filtering in evo is horrible anyway, unchecking it won't make it any worse ;-)

It'd be good to have a log obtained by running
  CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution > log
and attach the log file to the bug report.
