I have the same problem here with Dapper Flight 6.

And to add to it, if the computer turns on with the ipod plugged in, it won't show up as a mounted ipod either just as a removable drive and ejecting and reinsertin it doesn't bring it up in /media/ipod/

I have 3rd gen Ipod with firewire and final release of dapper updated from breezy. The Ipod only mounts once per boot. It can be found in system>admin>disks and can be mounted to a directory from there for subsequent remount attempts, but still doesn't show in "Places" and can't be unmounted. gtkpod will not detect it when remounted this way. Using K7 kernel with AMD64 3200+ on Asus A8V deluxe mobo with mobo built in firewire port and 2 gig ram. Primary HDD is sata.

I have seen this issue on occasion, hard to reproduce, but I think is has to do with gnome-volume-manager, assigning there, although feel free to redirect.

Reviving an old bug, but I have seen this issue.

Updated Feisty. 20G (2003) iPod and Gigabyte GA-K8VT800 mobo. I dont know the details of my firewire card, but its a PCI expansion card.

An ipod connected via a firewire to my PC. Furthermore;
I am not sure if this is related, if i have the ipod connected during the boot process, booting halts at the early stages until i remove the ipod. Boot will resume and everything is OK, except that the ipod is not mountable until the next reboot.

I'm having the same exact problem. Using Gutsy. Has anyone found a workaround yet?

I am running Gutsy and using a 4th generation click wheel iPod. Gutsy will mount my iPod on boot, but will not recognize if I eject and then try to connect again. It also does not mount if it was disconnected at boot time.

The initial bug description shows that the kernel rediscovers the disk and its partition just fine. So it is obviously a bug in the userspace infrastructure.
