There are some changes I made:
* Debian disabled the ability to download plugins and ships them all as part of the package for security reasons. So I updated the Ubuntu patch that renames /usr/lib files to /usr/share to include the plugins and look in /usr/share for them.
* Some previous ubuntu releases did not repackage the upstream tarball like Debian does (to drop the upstream's debian/ directory). When the ubuntu releases did that, they tended to drop lots of debian files talking about the repackage (README.Debian-source for example). I left the repackaging as-is and kept the debian files to make a smaller delta.

You're work looks good, but I wonder about the Debian changes. While they disable downloading plugins, they don't seem to disable the automatic update checking. The first thing I saw on startup was a pop up telling me that a plugin was out-of-date.

I'm going to go ahead and upload since the security issue is real, but we might want to dig into this a bit more.

Thanks for your work.
