Bug Description

When I created a new user (rather than the one that I created during installation) and then switch to the new user, the trackpad did not work, how ever, retrying it, the proble doesn't occur. So I don't know if it only happens when the first new user logs on.

try to log on first with the new user and only then switch to the one created durring intalation.

i want to see if it is related to the new created user or just with the users used for switching. Thanks

I've done more inverstigation and it looks like this problem appears for users without administration privileges .... they must belong to a certain group. I still don't know which group

I can confirm this problem on my EeePC. A little more detail though. I installed Ubuntu 8.04 with an external USB mouse attached. When booting the laptop without a USB mouse I can use the trackpad in the login screen, but when I login as the user created upon first installation it stops working. Creating a new user and logging in works, and the mouse is usable.

Please try this in Ubuntu 8.10. The detection mechanism is now completely different.
