Screensavers are enabled but not installed in Xubuntu Dapper

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xubuntu-desktop

A default installation of Xubuntu Dapper enables a large number of xscreensavers that are not installed.

As a result, the "Random Screensaver" option bounces between enabled (but again, not installed) screensavers with no output to the screen.

While not a critical issue, it is an annoyance, and disabling that many screensavers is quite time-consuming.

thanks for you report. I know that some screensavers are not installed by default (rss-glx). Can you figure out which package contains the enabled but not installed screensavers ? If not at least their names.

The list is long, but distinguished. ... I tried to backtrack through the
list of names to find the package that might install them, but I'm not sure
where to look to find them. Here are a list of names that are enabled, but
not installed, at default. I hope you don't mind that I didn't list them
all. It would take quite some time.

anemone, anemotaxis, appollonian, apple2, atlantis, attraction (balls,
lines, orbital and splines, but not poly), barcode, blaster, blitspin,
blocktube, boing, bouboule, bouncingcow, boxed, boxfit, bsod, bubbles,
bumps, c curve, cage, celtic, cloudlife, compass, coral, crackberg, crystal,
cube21, cubenetic, cynosure, dangerball, decayscreen, deluxe, discrete,
drift, epicycle ...

That's only through the D's. There are plenty more, if you need them.
Cheers!

I think that other DE's might have an some 'middleware' script or program which actually checks for the presence or not of screensavers before presenting the list of useable savers to the user. It appears to me that the list made available by xubuntu is the standard xscreensaver list.

I almost forgot about this. ... I believe adding xscreensaver-gl-extra and
xscreensaver-data-extra will install the enabled-but-missing screensavers.
Hope that helps. Cheers!

if you can test this and make sure it's a fix they can be added to xubuntu-desktop and this bug can be closed.
thanks

actually those packages are in universe, and chances are not good they can be brought back to main to be shippable.

those xscreensaver dependencies will not be promoted to main, so cloising this bug.
