Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

nm-applet appears to be built against libnm-glib-vpn.so.0, but the corresponding libnm-glib2 package contains libnm-glib-vpn.so.1:

jdub@fehung:~$ ldd /usr/bin/nm-applet | grep vpn
 libnm-glib-vpn.so.0 => not found

jdub@fehung:~$ dpkg -L libnm-glib2 | grep vpn
/usr/lib/libnm-glib-vpn.so.1.0.0
/usr/lib/libnm-glib-vpn.so.1

This causes nm-applet to fail, which may be alarming and/or inconvenient for karmic testers (and is obviously pretty critical for release as well, not that I expect this situation to remain for that long).

Versions:

  network-manager 0.8~a~git.20090923t064445.b20cef2-0ubuntu1
  libnm-glib2 0.8~a~git.20090923t064445.b20cef2-0ubuntu1

  network-manager-gnome 0.8~a~git.20090913t161448.cc2f6be-0ubuntu1

Thanks!

Hi, well I experienced this bug few minutes ago, after an update my gnome network manager was dead, I restarted the systemr but nothing happened, no internet access, so I don't have wireless internet; wired internet still work though.
I un- and installed the gnome network manager several times without success; it doesn't work.
I tried also the command "nmapplet" but it tells me -no such directory-.
I know use Wicd Network manager which works just fine.

Just stating that package was queued for building, but building failed:

So we might just have to wait :)

It would actually have been useful to keep this bug open for a bit so people find it when they search...

I made exactly what #4 did, I was frustrated because I'm on Wireless and don't know how to configure /etc/network/interfaces for it :)

But I did the "ln" and now I seeing that this has been reported and fixed, wow :)

P.S. I'm seeing a lot of testers having to install everything again hehehe

I managed to get out of my "no-internet-lock-down" by downloading the newest version of network-manager-gnome and libnm-glib2 from my dualboot windows (not really sure if the second is necessary) and installing them on ubuntu, after a reboot my network manager was up and running again. Thought it might help others.
