Bug Description

Binary package hint: xubuntu-system-tools

I have a DVD burner that is wrongly reported as a CD-ROM drive, although disks-manager detects its ability to read/write DVSs. The icon and description are identical to those of a CD drive, which is misleading and may be interpreted as missing functionality for other applications.

I am attaching a snapshot of the window.

The icon and description should clearly state this is a DVD writer device, although I guess this open some discussion about the many different kinds of DVD writers out there.

I am not sure why this has been categorize low priority. I added some more information to the upstream bug. I really think this is an important usability issue, as more people use DVD-R/W drives and this seems to imply Ubuntu is incable of rightly identifying this "simple" device. I deal with lots of new Ubuntu users and it's getting hard to explain this, if it is only a label problem.

It's low priority for the distribution, because that's only feature, of one application and not one of the most used daily by people. Setting it to medium would mean it's fairly annoying to most of users in their daily use of the distribution, that's probably not the case for that issue

I believe this can be closed now, upstream has rejected it as it seems this tool is not even in Gnome anymore and/or its development has stopped.

Closing it now then, thanks you.
