Bug Description

Using "breezy badger."
Choosing "Periodically synchronize clock with internet servers" only synchronizes once, and fails to report any error. Worked fine before reboot.
The ntp package is installed, synchronizing succeeds, ntpdate does not report NTP socket in use as it did before reboot.

Thanks for your bug. How do you notice that ntp fails? What do you mean by "ntpdate does not report NTP socket in use as it did before reboot"?

Before, when it was kept synchronized, if I ran ntpdate to synchronize it
would exist saying the NTP socket is in use. Now ntpdate succeeds in
synchronizing and the clock is often off by 5-20 seconds. When I go back
into the time admin the checkbox for keeping the clock synchronized is no
longer checked. This started when I rebooted last time. I believe it is due
to something I updated.

works fine for me on dapper, does anybody else has that issue?

Could you run "/usr/share/setup-tool-backends/scripts/time-conf --get" and copy that to a comment?

according to that log the sync option is not activated, are you sure you checked the box for it?

I've upgraded (via 'apt-get dist-upgrade') to dapper, and it still does it.

marking as unconfirmed since the questions got a reply, the desktop team is really busy and will not likely look at that issue soon but if somebody getting it wants to track it or bring it upstream he's welcome

I've got the same problem on my home dapper system. I've checked the sync box many times but on most days I find that my system time is wrong and ntp is not running and the sync check box is not checked.

This computer is an old PII 400 MHz machine, the on board motherboard battery is dead so it loses the correct time and any non-default bios settings every time it is turned off.

Fixed now.

I think an upgrade did it.
