This bug was fixed in the package eclipse - 3.5.1-0ubuntu7

---------------
eclipse (3.5.1-0ubuntu7) karmic; urgency=low

  * Install org.eclipse.update.core.linux on x86 (LP: #454819).
  * Add missing conflict between libequinox-osgi-java and older
    eclipse-rcp (LP: #455023).
  * eclipse-jdt depends on eclipse-plugin-cvs.

I think this problem may have been reintroduced in Eclipse 3.5.2 on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I'm running into the exact same 'The Artifact file ... was not found'. I tried to install plugins for both FindBugs (http://findbugs.cs.umd.edu/eclipse) and Subclipse (http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.6.x). Has anyone else out there experienced this?

I did not have it installed when I first tried this but after reading your comment I installed eclipse-plugin-cvs and attempted the previous installation again. The same error occurred.

Hi! The installation by the Ubuntu Software Store does not include these packages for Eclipse.
Remove it, and install the Eclipse from Synaptic.

System: AMD64 Ubuntu 10.04

I installed Eclispe via the Ubuntu Software Centre, then attempted to install several different addons, all getting the same error (after a certificate warning):

Mine says org.eclipse.cvs.

Regarding my comment above, I tried Benjamin's suggestion to install eclipse-plugin-cvs, which led me to learn that I also needed to install these packages via apt-get too:

eclipse-jdt
eclipse-pde

Then new software installation worked! Thanks for the suggestion.

Wanted to confirm on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS same problem, and after following suggestions above and installing Eclipse from Synaptic rather than the Ubuntu Software Center (which I believe also filled in installation for eclipse-jdt and eclipse-pde) helped solve the problem. Thanks for the tips guys!

The problem seems to happen only when installing EclipseIDE from Ubuntu "Software Center".

It somehow misses some packages needed to run plugin update properly.

Most notably "eclipse-pde".

Install it first by "apt-get install eclipse-pde"
(It will install cvs plugin , jdt , default jdk etc also)

Then try running eclipse plugin install again.
