MythTV Frontend icon is Very hard to see.

Affects 9.10 Ubuntu x86_64 (Desktop) too.

This is also effecting me. Mythtv pre-installed on Ubuntu 9.4, upgraded to 9.10 64 bit. I can still make out the text but just barely.

The same issue applies to the MythTV Backend Setup icon in "System" -> "Administration"

Ok, I finally dug up where this is, cause it has annoyed me slightly too. You'll find that
/usr/share/applications/mythtv.desktop
 points to:
/usr/share/mythtv/themes/MythCenter-wide/ui/mythtv_logo.png

I believe the problem with the logo is a combination of a lot of white space surrounding the letters, and the fact that the letters of the font are extremely light colored. When you hilight the entry, it is much easier to read, but even then, not great.

You can find a few other themes in /usr/share/mythtv/themese, one or two of which have much more legible icons. But to be honest, none of them are great, either from a theme/consistency point of view, or from a pure visual point of view (they aren't scaling down properly width vs. height).

Not turning this into a formal contest, but if any (or all) of you have the time and inclination to upload some alternative logo designs, I will see what I can do about getting this fixed. Perhaps one of your ideas could be the basis/starting point for what it ends up being. Ideally the logo would be consistent with the Mythbuntu website and Mythbuntu 0.22 theme in general, although that is probably not strictly necessary. Considering that the menu entry already says MythTV, I don't know that the icon needs to say it too... but then again, I guess that doesn't hurt (esp if you were to add it to your system panel/tray).

Here is a temp one until the new identity goes online.

Same problem in Kubuntu-10.04, icon blends with panel, whether with Oxygen or Air color scheme. And is boring, besides.

What's really needed is a *new* icon. Preferably of a television.

After a new mythtv install, I usually create a desktop shortcut to MythTV Frontend and change the icon to:
/usr/share/icons/Humanity/devices/48/display.svg

The official square icon looks good on both the menu and desktop shortcuts.
