Bug Description

Changing resolution with the slider resulted with all the other resolution modes being discarded from xorg.conf. Luckily a backup still was kept.

This is the configuration file before adjusting the resolution through the GUI

It might for me personally, because I can go and add the disappeared resolutions into the xorg.conf. However, my Ubuntu using mother would be permanently stuck with the lower resolution, and I bet there are plenty of other users who do not feel comfortable manually editing xorg.conf. After all, that's why there is GUI.

The solution to your mother's problem is to go manually select the correct monitor model, since Plug n Play isn't working. Unfortunately this solution isn't very well documented at the moment.

Any status on this? Is this still an issue with either Gutsy or Hardy?

This is present in an up-to-date Hardy as well. If needed I can provide a new example of this.

No need. Guidance displayconfig needs some major re-engineering to work
well with the current xorg. We've hacked it into mostly working for Hardy,
but that's about it. Unless upstream is suddenly reinvigorated we'll
probably have a different solution for Intrepid.
