Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

Upgrading a working system from Breezy to Dapper broke dual monitor / dual video card setup. X.0.log indicates the second video card instance fails to load libint10.so, indicating a V_BIOS read error, or a shmat error. I've tried this with multiple video cards, in multiple configurations including ATI Rage IIC, NVidia GeForce 5500, Intel i810.

I have reset motherboard video adapter priority from onboardP to external PCI in all combos. I have tried X -configure, which recognizes the dual head configuration, but fails to load the xorg.conf it creates. lspci reports the cards correctly, and each card individually works fine under X. Only when I try to create a dual head xorg.conf does the consistent and repeatable failure occur. I went out and bought the NVidia GeForce 5500 PCI board to test to see if it was the ATI Rage IIC, and both created the exact same error, in the same place.

The motherboard in question is an ASUS P4P800 with an Intel P4-2800, using an Intel chipset. 1 GB memory, and this system has run Breezy and Debian stable for years. This was a working dual monitor, dual video card, dual desktop install.

I can provide dmesg output, lspci output, X logs etc.

I have the same problem. It seems that this is due to the secondary card not being initialized correctly. Xorg bugs 2597 (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2597) or 5760 (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5760) may address this.
