unable to burn dvd

Bug Description

i have tried to burn a data dvd (.avi files) using both graveman and by just inserting a dvd and using the 'CD/DVD creator'.

in graveman it goes through the process of burning the dvd (it took a couple of hours which seemed a bit long). then at the end of the process it says that the dvd has been created sucessfully (or whatever the positive message is) but when i tried to read the dvd it was unreadable (my partner has a Mac with OSX which could not read it either).

so then i decided to try dapper's creator but it won't begin the process. it says i should insert a valid disc (i'm using DVD-r, but on the list is only DVD-rw)
but i know my burner is capable of DVD-r's because i have used them before.

i am using dapper drake, and have the (most-all) restricted formats installed and turned the DMA on so that DVD playback wouldn't be choppy. that is all i can think of that would could have affected the drive.

cheers,
bradley.

i also can't read data dvds that were burnt on XP (the discs work on XP so it isn't a problem with the disc).
either the disc won't mount of if it does the data stored on it is unavailable. (if i try to copy it it comes up with an error message)

although i realize that this isn't a life or death situation i have been dealing with this for about a month now and it is really frustrating. it would be nice to get some help soon.

i can imagine that an experienced linux user would find this report vague but the only ways that i can check stuff out is in the wiki and forums which seems void of this but if more info is necessary let me know and i will be more than happy to post it.

thanks,
bradley.

Hi, thanks for your bug report. Do you still have this issue with the latest updates?
If yes, please try to burn a dvd and attach /var/log/syslog to this bugeport. Also, can you try to run either graveman and/or the CD Creator (nautilus --no-desktop) from a terminal and see if it reports any errors?
I think it can be a kernel issue, but it is hard to tell where the problem is.

I am having the same issue as the filer. I have not tried graveman, but have tried the demo version of Nero, gnomebaker, and something else that I can't recall. None would burn an iso file to a dvd. CD Creator will create a CD, but fails to burn an iso file saying it only support CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-RW. I'm trying to use a DVD-R. The drive is a Pioneer A05 which can write DVD-R and has done so many times under Win2k. I'm running Dapper Drake fully updated as of 25Oct. DMA is enabled. My DVD drive is hda.

The interesting section of syslog is

I tried nautilus --no-desktop. Same failure. No error message.

I have tried everything I can find but have not been able to burn a DVD. One time I got a partial burn, less than 10% of the data. The rest nothing. In particular one of the tools I tried (sorry, don't remember which) went through the whole process very slowly but did not burn a thing.

Anything else I can do to help, just let me know. I'm watching this bug.
