After bootup I can mount the shares by using mount /mnt/Sharename which means the fstab command is good, but during boot I get the smbfs error. Exactly the same with me: command line mounts work flawlessly, only boot-time fstab issuing smbfs: mount_data version 1684370019 is not supported Actually the message (new long number in it) changed when I switched from s= tating my username and password in plain text in the /etc/fstab to credenti= als file, available only to the root for reading.=20 The previous one was=20 smbfs: mount_data version 1919251317 is not supported In both cases issuing mount -a as root (or sudo-ing it) worked perfectly. I will appreciate any help on the matter. I used this quick&dirty workaround: since the last step of the boot process is to launch /etc/rc.local (if enabled), I put a "mount -a" command before the last "exit 0" command, and it worked. At the end of the system startup, you will find your remote shares correctly mounted. I used the cifs protocol, but I should work with smbfs too.
