Bug Description

When connecting the Sony DSC-W100 camera using the USB storage mode, the usb device is detected but the usb storage mode is not started, then I cannot acces the pictures and movies storage room on the camera.
Thanks to the wonderfull gThumb, I can reach the storage room of the camera through the USB PTP mode (even if the wrong camera name is used for the PTP driver).

This is the output of "sudo udevmonitor --env" when connecting the Sony DSC-W100 camera to a USB port (hub or directly)

In order to make the comparison with the Sony camera, I did the same thing with a verbatim usb key.

Tested with a ~x86 gentoo: USB Mass storage works ok with the Sony camera.
IMHO USB PTP seems less troublesome for dealing with cameras. Feel free to add the driver to gThumb and close the bug.

I have this camera. The solution is install the new kernel 2.6.20 in your system. It is easy, you have to obtain the kernel in www.kernel.org. Then, you have to compile this kernel (There are a lot how to in the web). Now, I can download the pictures like a pen drive with my sony dsc-w100. There are one problem, you only can download the pictures like a external device (NO with digikam and another similar programs) but It isn't a problem to me. I'm using Kubuntu edgy elf. bye

I have the W100 with 1Gb Memory Stick Pro Duo and the same problem occurs... my doubt before begin to compile the kernel is if the standard config of kernel 2.6.20 is enough to fix it... or if is necessary some specific change at the config.

Thank you in advance for any return!

well............ I don't know. I didn't use specific changes. I only compile
the new kernel without experimental options (to avoid problems). I believe
that you don't any problems, good luck. bye
