Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Currently, network-manager uses notify-osd in a suboptimal way.

Typical scenario:

My netbook is connected to the wireless network.
1. It suspends
2. It resumes and reconnects to the same network. While that happens, the network-manager displays the following notifications, in their full duration (5 sec each):

Network name
Disconnected

Network name
Disconnected - you are now offline

Network name
Connection established

While in fact, all that the user is interested in is:

Network name
Connection established

Another words, network-manager should take advantage of the "replace" hint in notify-osd and only display the most recent (therefore really relevant) notification.

Please seehttps://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/460144/comments/5 for an example of how nm-applet should be using libnotify to update any existing bubble/notification.

These would be amazing to have fixed indeed, but it looks like this report is a duplicate of bug #460144 which has 2 duplicates itself. Should it be marked as such?

Oh sorry, I see it was already mentioned twice :] What do you guys prefer, marking the other as a duplicate of this or this as a duplicate of that? Generally whichever bug has the best information is used as the "master".

I'd say regard #460144 as the master bug. It needs to be fixed in nm-applet anyway.

Thanks for marking the duplicate Jacopo but don't forget to carry over tasks that aren't in the master bug, in this case the papercuts task. Otherwise the task isn't on the master anymore and can be lost in the workflow / milestone. Luckily vish took care of that :)
