Bug Description

Binary package hint: light-themes

While using the ambiance theme if you have pidgin running it does not display the background color properly for the icon. I am not sure if that is because the icon is not set to be transparent or if something else is causing the problem. It shows up as the icon on a beige box background.

Same bug applies for "LifeRea" (RSS-Reader; blue world icon) and "Xchat" as well as for "Rhythmbox". They all don't fit in the panel smoothly → http://ubuntu-pics.de/bild/45442/light_panel_ambiance_1D6Xhg.png

@ Marc, thanks for your uploads as both are working fine. Should I still file a new bug-report for Liferea or are you going to send them to the regular lucid-repos anyway?
@ Chris: I am going to open a separate bug-report for Xchat as the Rhythmbox icon changed correctly with my today's update. It depends on Marc's answer, if I file a report against Liferea too.

Actually, for pidgin, this is a dupe of bug #529375.
For liferea, this is a dupe of bug #101980.

For XChat, I'm not sure what problem you are having as it works fine for me, and appears correct in the screenshot you've attached.

@marc is this something that the application should deal with or the responsibility is on theme?

Well, if all the application is doing is drawing an icon in a box using the default window background color, as soon as the theme has something different, like a gradient, the box will be visible. I don't see how the theme can fix this apart from using the plain window background color as the panel background.

Marc, Xchat shows the correct background but the icon itself isn't correspondig well with the new light-theme. The colour should be grey instead of orange to fit nicely in the panel (see above screenshot).
Am I understanding you right that (reading your statement "by default, the pidgin tray icon has been disabled for a couple of releases now. It's something you must turn on yourself") your fixes won't make it into the repos as one can/should usw the indicator-applet?
Thx and regards, Flo

The Xchat issue is a different issue, you should file a new bug for it. This bug is for non-transparent icon backgrounds.

By default, most users will be using the indicator-applet. The pidgin notification icon is there for users who expressly turn it on.

I don't know yet if I will be uploading my packages to the repo, as I need to make sure there are no regressions and nobody has an issue with them.

Hi,

the transparency issue also exists when enabling the OTR plugin in Pidgin. It seems that all icons in menus in Pidgin are/were missing the transparency, text menus are ok, however. I'm attaching a screenshot and will test the fixed version of Pidgin also and report back.

Marc,

your updated version of Pidgin fixed the issue with the tray icon. However, there are still the OTR icon in the chat window and the "New Message" icon in the buddy list which have the same issue. I have attached screenshot in the duplicate bug report (#529375).

Please do not forgot to send your patches to upstreams if this should really be an issue with Pidgin!

Thanks,

Adrian
