Hello Ron,

is ubuntu-restricted-extras (or specifically the package gstreamer-plugins-bad which includes DVD subpicture decoder) installed?

Hello Zerwas

ubuntu-restricted-extras was installed but gstreamer-plugins-bad was not. Following the installation of gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad and the other packages recommended by Synaptic the DVD now plays as expected.

Good evening...

I'm new to Ubuntu and to Linux in general.
I'm having the same problem, only I don't have a clue on how to install gstreamer-plugins-bad and ubuntu-restricted-extras.

So far, I've only managed to learn a few basic commands on terminal.

Could you instruct me?

Thanx in advance,
Vitor

Ah, so its not installing gstreamer-plugins-bad automatically and you end up having to do manually?

Same problem here: I can't burn vob files with brasero because it requires this "decoder dvd subpicture" plugin.

I have gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad installed by default
I tried to install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse .. no luck
I tried to install ubuntu-restricted-extra (with addons) .. no luck

I don't know what to do .. I'm using ubuntu since 9.04 and it never happened to me!

This came up for the first time for me in Ubuntu 10.10 just now.

After the error, totem continued to play the video stream but not the audio stream.

I didn't wait long enough to see if it would eventually fail.

This comes after a rash of odd behavior from totem (gstreamer) in the last month. See bugs #644644, and #375224 / #246319 (possibly duplicates).

This also happens in 10.04 amd64 and with any other codec (mpeg4, mp3). I had to install these codecs manually from Synaptic.
