Bug Description

as per lp: #552426 rhino is to be synced from debian, it now depends on libxmlbeans-java as per lp: #552426 hence the MIR.

Availability: libxmlbeans-java is in universe, it was in multiverse originally.
Rationale: Rhino depends on it. A version of Rhino without XML support was built, this breaks applications such as Alfresco.

Hi,

please check whether you want this MIR to happen in maverick still
 * if you don't want it to be considered, simply set the status to "Invalid"
 * if you still want to see this happening, you don't need to do anything besides working on getting the concerns fixed. Once that happened, remember to set the status back to "New" again.

Thanks!

rhino doesn't build in maverick. note, the package was originally made by Thierry, some more input what to do for maverick?

the package build-depends on itself, so a manual build is needed.

plus it depends on libsaxonb-java which would need a MIR too.

as an alternative, revert the changes in rhino

Hm, two days before FinalFreeze, it is getting late to do two MIRs and a FFe on rhino (which is used in a lot of top-level stacks, including eucalyptus) just to enable the E4X support.

In order to fix the FTBFS in Maverick we'll revert the E4X support in the source package, and we should definitely enable it in Natty (it's likely that we'll have a Java housekeeping spec in natty that will result in a few MIRs).

Fixed proposed (see attached branch) to disable E4X support in rhino which allows this errant dependency to be removed.

See bug 638724 for the revert in rhino. Marking this one wontfix for maverick, will be revisited early in Natty.

I believe that we are now in a position to push the MIR's for xmlbeans and saxonb for Natty; These are both required to support enabling E4X support (see bug 304702) in rhino which was disabled at the end of the Maverick release cycle to remove this dependency. Both are currently present in universe.

This process is slightly complicated that xmlbeans depends on itself to build (don't you just love code generation languages) so it will need to be manually built in main.

James, please file a rt ticket and give short instructions how xmlbeans should be built for the first time (e.g. using the debian binary). Once the package is built in universe, we can promote it.
