Bug Description

Binary package hint: klaptopdaemon

I know at first you may be thinking, well he's just consistently entering his password wrong, but I have been able to replicate this bug everytime I log back into Kubuntu. You will have to trust my honesty here. Could someone give me instructions on how to get more information on this bug.

Can you confirm this is Dapper?
Do you use klaptopdaemon menu or command line or hotkey to suspend?
Can you attach /var/log/acpid?

Can you also do the following steps after suspend (before entering password):
1. Ctrl-Alt-F1 (to switch to text console)
2. Login with your username/password
3. ps -ef > ps.txt
4. exit
5. Ctrl-Alt-F7
6. Try to unlock the screen

Attach created ps.txt (to see if multiple screensavers are started).

I am using Dapper, but here's the strange thing, I followed your instructions and the problem disappered. But when I suspended again to see if the problem was still there, I found that it still was. So it seemes that if I login to the console then login to KDE, the login screen does not display a login failed message.

Also, the files you requested are attached.

ps and acpid looks ok, therefore I suspect it has to do with some keyboard typeahead or similar that may get cleared when you switch to text console.

Can you try to press Backspace couple of times before entering password to unlock? It may be that some key got in before suspend and ws then accepted by screensaver lock.

Please also provide info about your laptop - easiest with:
cat /var/lib/acpi-support/system-*

Hitting backspace a couple times seems to solve the problem. (I wonder what key is "getting stuck"). Strange that the password field seems empty.

This is the out put of cat /var/lib/acpi-support/system-*"

I think we found the cause (but not which key), but no fix as of yet.
