Bug Description

The address bar turns it's background pale yellow when visiting a secure site, however it does not change the font. This makes the contents of the address bar unreadable if a pale font colour is used, like white. For reference, Firefox changes the address bar to pale yellow, but it also changes the text to black so it remains readable for any theme.

See this for example on the Clearlooks-DarkOrange theme controls.

I can't remember whether this theme came with Ubuntu, if not it's available from here: http://art.gnome.org/themes/gtk2/1065

That upload fixes the bug:
