Bug Description

Hi

I've just downloaded firefox beta 2 and want to use it as my main browser, so I've installed it in /opt/firefox/

Then, in gnome prefered applications settings I've changed to path to my browser so every gnome app uses firefox 2, but the url's are still launching firefox 1.0 (provided by default ubuntu package).

I'm using dapper up to date i386 arch.

Thanks for your bug. What browser does "gnome-open http://launchpad.net" start?

gnome-open http://launchpad.net opens firefox beta. The problem seems to be in the links (.desktop files) I've created in my desktop with drag & drop from the url location bar in firefox. Here's one:

javier@turion:~/Desktop$ cat DebConf\ 6.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=enlace hacia DebConf 6
Type=Link
URL=http://meetings-archive.debian.net/pub/debian-meetings/2006/debconf6/
Icon=gnome-fs-bookmark

I don't know what package provides this url handler, so I assume the bug needs reasignment.

Thanks

Does a right click, properties, "open with" tab on a html file and pick your browser fix the issue? That looks like a duplicate of bug #17081

I can set html file to open with firefox beta, but the .desktop files still open ubuntu's firefox. On a related note, if I have firefox 2 already loaded .desktop links open correctly.

Thanks

Hi

I'm posting here the steps to reproduce the bug in case anyone wants to give this bug a go.

1. Go to http://www.mozilla.org/projects/bonecho/all-beta.html and download the linux i686 package.
2. install it (aka extract it anywhere).
[3. go to that directory and run it from the cli: ./firefox]
4. Set it up as your default web browser in prefered applications.
5. Try to open any .desktop file that launches an URL, for instance the one I've posted above.

Step 3 is optional, to see if you need any extra library (libstdc++5, or something similar) and if it runs fine before reproducing the bug.

Thanks

For the record I also think is a duplicate of bug #17081

Or at least very similar, the problem here is a .desktop file with an URL on it.
