I'm on a HP DV2000 laptop, which I think has the same sound hardware. I can CONFIRM that microphone input does not work for me (despite volumes being set) and that volume is much lower than windows, just as the original reporter says.

I wonder what layer this bug is at? Any advice for debugging?

I've got the same problem with IBM Thinkpad T60. I wonder if Bug #42600 is also related to this bug.

Is this bug ignored?

Why is it still unconfirmed?

Is it so exotic?

I wish to see a little bit light at the end of the tunnel.

I am also suffering this problem (both no microphone and low speaker volume compared to Windows). A slightly more complete lspci dump follows. Thanks!

Patches have already been sent but have not been applied yet. Because of the proximity of Edgy's release, it's likely they'll have to be applied in a post-release update.
