Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

I have noticed that sometimes when a contact is added it does not immediately appear in the contact list, but rather requires a full evolution --force-shutdown and restart in order for the contact to appear in the list of contacts. One way that this always occurs is adding a contact from an email. The steps to reproduce this bug are:

1) Go to the Mail tab in evolution
2) Right click on the email address of someone who is not in your addressbook and select "Add to address book".
3) Select "OK" in the "Contact quick-add" dialogue.
4) Now go to the Contacts tab in evolution.
5) Try searching for the added contact in the list of contacts. It will not appear.
6) Now go back to the Mail tab and adding the contact again. After selecting "OK" in the "Contact quick-add" dialogue, evolution will complain that you have a duplicate contact, so the contact is in the data server, but will not appear in your contacts list. Also, email address completion will not work if you try writing to this contact.
7) The only way to force evolution to "see" this contact is to do an evolution --force-shutdown.

I am using Ubuntu 6.06 LTS with all the bug fixes. The evolution package has version 2.6.1-0ubuntu7, but this bug occurred in previous versions as well.

I didn't emphasize the importance of this bug previously. As contacts don't immediately appear, one has a tendency to create duplicate contacts. Also, at least in my case, I usually add a contact immediately prior to writing to, calling, etc. that contact. So, if they don't appear, then I can't do any of that, which makes it useless to add a contact. Finally, I am not sure how this will affect synchronization with an organizer (which I do, but haven't followed closely enough to tell what the effect is).
