I'm experiencing the same thing in Dapper (kino 0.80). I had Kino working flawlessly with Debian Etch (Kino 0.90) -- and was able to import all types of video formats with its new transcoding support using mencoder and ffmpeg. I wish someone could figure out what's up because I would love to get this program working in Dapper and later Edgy.

To this happens only, if I have the kino-plugins installed. If I only install the package "kino" without additional plugins, kino starts normal.

I thinks thats a fault of the plugins-packages.

I can confirm what Suzan (above) advises, Kino would crash every time on opening but after removing the Kinoplus plugins package Kino would start normally.
