Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Maverick Meerkat.

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu and I'm nominating it for a stable release update.
Rationale for SRU:
- Package uninstallable in Lucid
- Non critical application
- Nothing depends on it

Changed in sks (Ubuntu):
status: New → Fix Released

Accepted sks into lucid-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

SRU verification for Lucid:
I have reproduced the problem with sks 1.1.1-1ubuntu2 in lucid and have verified that the version of sks 1.1.1-1ubuntu2.1 in -proposed fixes the issue. I've also verified that the daemon starts correctly.

Marking as verification-done

This bug was fixed in the package sks - 1.1.1-1ubuntu2.1

---------------
sks (1.1.1-1ubuntu2.1) lucid-proposed; urgency=low

  * don't chown PIDDIR in postinst, since we do it in init (LP: #602189)
    backport fix from 1.1.1-2
