I can confirm this is happening for me too, running Amarok on Gnome/Edgy beta.

It looks like you might possibly need to install kdelibs or something like that to get the trash:/ protocol. Is this still a bug in edgy final or feisty?

Please re-open this bug, as it still exists, even with kdelibs installed. I'm running Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy. So when deleting files from amarok 1.4, I get the error message listed above. I installed amarok from the "add/remove" utility in the ubuntu menus.

Here's what synaptic says is installed.

needs to depend on kdebase, (or kdebase-kio-plugins?). assigning to me.

Fixed in Gutsy? I am running Ubuntu Hardy (with all the latest updates as of this post) and this issue Still apparently exists. I did see where you can config the del shortcut manually, however this was not for the Amarok player and I must be overlooking the config file to accomplish this task. If I configure [manage files/delete file...] to "delete files instead of moving to the trash" everything is fine, however there is no going back. Choosing to send files to the trash brings up the old "Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'trash'." dialogue.

Now, I understand this is developed as a KDE app, but there are a LOT of people using this on Gnome. Where can a person really alter this behavior and actually use the "trash" on Ubuntu's Gnome based OS? I would be happy to document the process for newbies, I just need to be able to accomplish the task before documenting...

Is there a Solution yet?

Got kdebase-kio-plugins installed? Seems to be working for me, under gnome, with both gnome and kde4 installed. No one else has reported it for 6+ months either, as far as i can see, so i'm not sure if it's a local issue.

still exists in Intrepid 8.10 with all updates. kdebase-kio-plugins, according to aptitude, has been replaced with mediamanager and kdemultimedia-kio-plugins. After installing both these packages, however, problem still exists.

I'm also running intrepid. This all started for me after moving from kde3 to kde4. This also occurs in kuickshow if I attempt to delete something. I have mediamanager and kdemultimedia-kio-plugins installed, but like the person above this problem still exists.

I have the same problem and can confirm that I have both mediamanager and kdemultimedia-kio-plugins installed. To work around I am using the organise files function to move file for deletion and then doing manually. A bit long handed, and would be great if this could be resolved.
