Icon selection window problems in v0.8 (Ubuntu Dapper)

As with the other alacarte bug I registered, even if this is a bug in GTK we shouldn't throw our hands up and resign ourselves to shipping broken software. There must be a way to work around this bug?

Travis, you know, GNOME bugs can be fixed too, but better to keep them open, reassign them and let know upstream about them if you think there is an issue.

Daniel, #6177 is not a duplicate of this bug. Although both bugs are concerned with icon selection, they are talking about completely different widgets! Please re-read both bug descriptions carefully.

This patch fixes part of the problem for alacarte. You still have to select folders but it'll automatically update to show the changes.

This patch should apply cleanly

alacarte 0.9 no longer has this problem

Could this same fix be used with the Browse Icons dialog in "Create launcher", as accessed either from right-click on desktop or from "Add to Panel..." -> "Custom Application Launcher"?

This upload fixes the issue:

     - disable preview area in file chooser, not needed as we're selecting a
       directory
     - filter out non-directory items in the file chooser
       (Ubuntu: #6115, #19454)

The "Create launcher" dialog accessed with a right-click on the desktop works correctly now. There are still problems with adding a launcher to the panel.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Right click on panel and select "Add to panel..."
2. Click on "Custom Application Launcher".
3. Fill in anything, or nothing.
4. Click on "No Icon".
At this point for me, the "Browse Icons" window flashes briefly on the screen, disappears, and "No Icon" is replaced with the Kontact icon.
5. Click on Kontact icon to change icon.
The "Browse Icons" window opens, with the contents of the directory containing the Kontact icon, as expected.
6. Click on "Browse..."
New dialog appears.
7. Select another directory with icons and click "Open".
The Browse dialog and the "Browse Icons" dialog disappear and you are returned to "Create Launcher".
There is no way to change the icon for this launcher.

Michael, that's a different issue you describe and there is some other bug about it already

I couldn't find the other bug, but as of today with all current updates, the above problems have been fixed and all works normally for me.
