i have had the same error when creating the collection of mp3 (around 30GB) from my USB HD . Before crashing it complaining about not being able to process some m4v files (Happy Tree Friends podcast files), but I dont know if it is related.

Running Ubuntu Edgy Eft beta and amarok 1.4.3 (built 1 October)

I've been having this exact problem since I switched to Edgy. When building the collection (~27GB) amarokcollectionscanner crashes at about 60%. It takes much longer also... about 20 minutes to get to 100%. Although it reaches 100% it never actually finishes. Durring this time CPU usage is ~100% all the time and the computer is pretty much unusable. I've tried using both SQLite and MySQL with the same results. After letting it sit at 100% for about 20 more minutes, i cancel the collection process... nothing in the database.

I'm using the same location for my files as I did with Dapper and Amarok. On Dapper it took about 5 minutes to build the collection.

There was an ubuntu update to amarok yesterday so I tried to build my collection again. amarokcollectionscanner did NOT crash at all, but it still took forever to get to 100% and it still never finished. I let it sit at 100% for about an hour and during that time it would:

sit idle for 5 minutes
use 100% of my memory (1GB) and 100% of my CPU
stay that way for another 5 minutes
my memory would then clear back to 90% free
go back to idle for 5 minutes
repeat until i cancel it

Because nothing crashes this bug is perhaps fixed, but there is clearly something else going on. If I can provide information to help fix this please let me know.

As an additional note, everything works fine if I remove all m4v files from the folders that are being scanned.

I just got this.

Amarok 1.4.3.

I have a huge MP3 library on another machine; I've got it split up into a-z folders, which are then shared via NFS. I'm running Amarok on a remote machine and was adding the folders one at a time to Amarok's scan locations, then invoking a rescan. It was in the middle of scanning the "b"s when this happened.

Sorry; "huge" = 200GB.

running edgy eft. New install. mounted old hard disk (reiserFS) and told amarok to find it's collection in /home/shared/music/
clicked on re-scan
after about 10 - 15 minutes (50% approx complete) recieved crash error message.
amarok is continuing to intermittantly play tracks manually added to playlist from "Files" tab

Another Crash, now I've listened music while I'm moving some mp3 files in my music collection, but not the files of the music I'm listening to! ... I'm still listening, because this bug doesn't affect amarok playing music.

Same problem here. When it crash it says:

Sorry, the Collection Scan was aborted, since too many problems were encountered.
Advice: A common source for this problem is a broken 'TagLib' package on your computer. Replacing this package may help fixing the issue.

And a list of the problematic files (mp3,rm, oog,...). I would try to strace amarok an see if the problem is taglib

Please reopen this bug if there is still a problem.
