In Facebook when we write on the wall of a person, it should be showing the

writing comment*. It could not be judged that to whom is he/she is talking
unless you open it on web browser.

It should show both names on the gwibber.

I'll update pino 0.3 snapshot[1] in rawhide soon for test purpose if no one objects.

No sure if upstream has a such schedule currently since pino 0.3 is still under pre-alpha stage. I'll ask upstream for a release plan after pino 0.3 alpha is released.

I don't know vala at all, but it seems it's almost impossible to backport features from pino 0.3 to pino 0.2 (from upstream pino 0.3 is a completely new project).

I note that my account info did not migrate to the new version, which is fair I suppose given the oauth thing. OAUTH validation isn't working (redirects to twitter, paste the code, click verify, ... nothing), but what should I expect from a random unreleased koji build ;)

It seems pino 0.3 can't be released before F14 final, I think we can ship Gwibber as the default twitter client for F14 (maybe we should split mx into more packages to save space on livecd).

Hmm, well I tried pino-0.3-0.1.20100915hg.fc14 again and this time it managed to authenticate via OAUTH.

It is however very clunky and lacking functionality. Three of the four menu headings (Pino, View, and Help) are empty lists. Edit has one entry, New Account, which has sub-entries for identica and twitter.

I just tried to tweet with it and it doesn't seem to be working. There is a "sending statuses" notice that just keeps spinning.

The account pane on the side and a number of context menus that don't seem to actually function. In particular the "Settings" entry does nothing.

All in all, not a good user experience. I'm not a big fan of Gwibber, but it's better than this.

This was discussed at the blocker review meeting of 2010-10-01. It was accepted as a blocker under the criterion "All applications listed under the Applications menu must withstand a basic functionality test and not crash after a few minutes of normal use. They must also have working Help and Help -> About menu items". Desktop team, please either ensure pino is fixed somehow for final, or pick a twitter client that works, or don't ship one; the fix doesn't have to be to make pino work, any of the above is fine.

I reported the same bug yesterday yesterday not realising one had already been filed (obviously my Bugzilla search-fu could do with an update). It hasn't been noted here yet, but pino-0.2.11-1 doesn't work with identi.ca either. Thought I'd mention it as I just saw a note on the desktop list from Jesse Keating saying:

"From what I understand, pino also works with identi.ca,
and there is no issues with the current version in F14 for

Alas, there is. I've tried numerous times since F14 Alpha was released and pino has never gotten past the "updating..." phase for either Twitter or identi.ca.

In , Destinatus (destinatus-redhat-bugs) wrote :

After seeing a report on the desktop mailing list that pino works fine with identi.ca I ran some more tests, deleting "~/.cache/pino" and "~/.config/pino" after each test so I was starting from a clean state. I was wrong: pino does indeed work fine if you're only using identi.ca, or if you make sure to not add a Twitter account *before* adding an identi.ca account.

I'll leave pino running with both accounts to see if it'll eventually hang as it was doing before.

The current pino 0.3 can support Twitter's OAuth security system, but the snapshot is not even an alpha release. So I think it's not appropriate to ship pino 0.3 for F14 currently(we can push pino 0.3 as an update when possible), the pino 0.2 in Fedora can only log in identi.ca since 2010.9.1.

I sent comment on Desktop mailing list, but to clarify for users of this bug, the Gwibber 2.33 client in F13 updates-testing works fine with OAuth for Twitter, and identi.ca support.

And the user interface update supports Twitter lists, and general other features Pino lacks.

Original reason for removing Gwibber and moving to Pino was based on earlier couchdb and erland dependancies (20MB+ of dendancies). This no longer the case with the SQLite backend.

Is there any logic in trying to push a broken Pino, or leaving the install with no client at all, when Gwibber is known to work?

In , Destinatus (destinatus-redhat-bugs) wrote :

Seconded. From a user experience point of view, pino makes Fedora look bad. Gwibber works and has a more polished UI, whereas pino's UI is less polished and more importantly only works currently if you (a) only use identi.ca or (b) don't add a Twitter account before adding an identi.ca account.

I'd very much propose to switch to a mature and stable microblogging client for F15: obvious candidates would be Gwibber or Turpial.

Can we get input from the Desktop Team? At this point in time, switching to Gwibber for F15 would be still possible...
