Partitioner shows Xubuntu as "Ubuntu Maverick"

Thank you for reporting this bug. I can confirm this using the Xubuntu Maverick Desktop 64bit image dated 20100901. Of course, users should already know if they installed Ubuntu or Xubuntu, but many will not. This does not apply to a full disk install, but only when resizing an existing partition.

I think the description here is wrong; the partitioner is recognizing the existing install as Ubuntu(/dev/sda1), and the new one it's adding as Xubuntu (/dev/sda2).

This is because the installer doesn't query details of the OS already on the system beyond the LSB information.

You are correct. The existing partition is shown as Ubuntu Maverick, while the new one is shown as Xubuntu.

Until this image, both were shown as Xubuntu.

My mistake. This bug may be invalid then, but I'll let wiser heads than mine decide.

Though is it worth filing another bug about it being difficult to tell which is the existing install and which is the new install? I assume most people will be coming from Windows, but it's possible that someone would want to install multiple flavors of Ubuntu and become confused as I did.

Updated. This is still being shown wrong as of the Xubuntu desktop image dated 2010-09-17.

Can you attach /etc/lsb-release from the system that's incorrectly displaying at "Ubuntu Maverick"?

Here is the contents of /etc/lsb-release from the first, whole disk installation. I also installed 10.04 and 8.04 the same way. This issue only affects maverick, since this is the first time we show a graphic image of the drives. The file contents are the same on all versions.

I wouldn't expect lsb-release to differ - we intentionally don't change this for in-archive Ubuntu flavours.

This release of Ubuntu is no longer receiving maintenance updates. If this is still an issue on a maintained version of Ubuntu please let us know.
