Bug Description

The Dapper Xubuntu alternative install CD does not boot on my Thinkpad 380ED.

The error message provided is:

ISOLINUX 3.11 Debian-2006-03-16

isolinux:

Cannot boot from this CD. Please use CD2 or try a BIOS update.

As we don't ship a CD2 can the error message be corrected to something Ubuntu specific - maybe a reference to the install guide for info on netboot?

Not sure if this is where the bug belongs, but hopefully someone there can get this directed to the right place.

Kevin: if you don't know whether the package is correct, then don't change it please.

The issue is still relevant with Edgy and Feisty: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=422668

I also have this when trying to boot the install CD for Feisty on an IBM Thinkpad 600E(2645-a5u).
I was able to boot from the CD using the sbm.bin floppy image on the CD in the 'install' folder.

I'm triying to (re)-install Feisty in PC, what is weird is that I installed 6.10 using the Live-CD version without problem. My Hardware is modern, (I have a ASUS Motherboard with a AMD X2 3800+ and 1 GB in RAM) so I don't think it is (only) related to old hardware as some forums/webpages point out.

I had the same problem with 7.10 on a ThinkPad 380XD. I downloaded the latest BIOS update and was able to install Ubuntu after that. Here's the link to the firmware:

One more thing. Don't forget to use the i386 version and not the i686 :)
