Bug Description

Currently, on a fresh install of Ubuntu Edgy, the only search engines available are Wikipedia and Ubuntu Package search. I believe this is because the other search plugins in Firefox 2.0 are a new format. At any rate, this is a regression from Dapper with Firefox 1.5.

This also happens for me.

Link to upstream bug was added. According to comments upstream deskbar-applet author thinks this is not his problem but should be handled on the Mozilla/Firefox end.

Same here. Now i have to use yahoo "search as you type" because there is no google search ...

To add Google to the Deskbar search-engine list copy the attached file into /usr/share/firefox/searchplugins/ .

This is now fixed in CVS HEAD. I have a patch for the gnome-2-16 branch at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=348209.

I don't know if it will be commited to that branch though.

The patch will not be committed to the 2.16 branch. It should work and not break anything though. I've had a few positive reports and no negative feedback yet.

Any chance of a patched version being pushed into Edgy? Feisty seems like a long way away to wait for some fundamental functionality.

I had the issue in Edgy. That said, I cannot test as I am now in Feisty.

It _was_ definitely an issue in Edgy.
