Bug Description

Currently there are no reliable way to mount NTFS filesystem in Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper) as ntfsmount command doesn't not work in Ubuntu Dapper, besides this, read-write support in ntfsmount from ntfsprogs is not reliable (about 50% files can not be copied into NTFS volume, mounted with ntfsmount from ntfsprogs).

The ntfs-3g driver is an open source, GPL licensed, third generation Linux NTFS driver which was implemented by the same Linux-NTFS project as ntfsprogs. It provides full read-write access to NTFS, writing compressed files, changing file ownerships and access rights.

Technically it's based on and a major improvement to ntfsmount. The improvements include functionality, reliability, quality and performance enhancements.

As much as I'd love to see this on Dapper, it requires a new FUSE stack.

ntfs-3g driver packages for Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper) and updated FUSE libraries are included into Baltix 2.0 and are available in official Baltix repositories - ftp://ftp.akl.lt/baltix-linux/Baltix-Ubuntu_packages/dapper/ (look at ntfs-3g and fuse subfolders) since 2006 October :)
