Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

It seems that there is an editor that measures the length of a bug's description and refuses to allow the bug to be worked on unless the bug description is of a certain length. i believe my description of this problem is perfectly adequate, but will add more crap so it can be worked on.

At a minimum, we need:

1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,

i activated the Gedit spelling checker by clicking Tools/Check Spelling

2. the behavior you expected, and

i expected the spelling errors detected by Check Spelling to be highlighted one at a time

3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

The first error detected by Check Spelling was not highlighted in the document. All subsequent errors were correctly highlighted.

Thank you for your bug report. The issue is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)

As an alternattive solution to the problem, perhaps it would be a better idea to implement the Mozilla Thunderbird Spell Checker. To me it has an easier to use interface and does a better job of suggesting possible alternative spelling possibilities.

Bug transferred to Gnome Bugzilla, bug 650829 on 5/22/2011.

Unfortunately, even though i created this bug, i apparently cannot close it, but it should be closed.

Is this still reproducible in Gedit 3.x.x? Could you please attach a document where spelling error is missed and the language you have used to reproduce this?

Hi,

I run 2.30.3 as well, but never noticed the problem. Do you have an example text, and language, that will trigger this bug?

Hi Mysha,

i am enclosing 3 screen shots that should illustrate the problem.

   gedit.file is the file

first.spelling.error is after "tools/check spelling" note that the spelling
error is not
     hilighted.

second.spelling.error is after "ignore" note that the spelling error is
hilighted. It will
continue to be hilighted for all subsequent spelling errors.

Look this over and let me know if you need any additional info. i am running
Gedit 2.30.3.

Thanks a lot for checking out this problem,

Peace & Happiness,

Charles

Hi,

Curiously, I now experience this bug, where I can't recall seeing it before.
I have no idea what may have caused it.

Also +1 on an interface more like in Thunderbird.
