Bug Description

After first syncing my palm under dapper with copy from pilot some categories in the memos of evolution have wrong characters. Eg. a ? instead of a ä. I assume that there is no conversion to UTF-8.
The text of the memos are correct.

Thanks for your bug report. Which version of Ubuntu and gnome-pilot do you use? If you use Edgy, you might want to consider setting PILOT_CHARSET- the NEWS file mentions this:

    - Support for international character sets, with pilot-link 0.12.x. Users
should set the PILOT_CHARSET to an appropriate value (i.e. one
      recognised by iconv).

I use dapper and gnome-pilot 2.0.13. I will try to backport 2.0.14 from edgy to dapper as soon as possible.

I'm not sure this will be easy to do, but you can try: another possibility is trying a Edgy LiveCD. Thanks for your efforts.

With gnome-pilot 2.0.14 I have set PILOT_CHARSET to CP1252 which is the codepage used by my palm handheld, a Sony Clié PEG-SJ30. But nothing changes: the titles and the body of the memos are correct, the categories are not.
In calendar/conduits/memo/memo-conduit.c I see at some lines a call to e_pilot_utf8_to/from_pchar, but not in add_category_if_possible. Perhaps this is the reason: title and body are converted, but the category are not.

I agree with DB. Time to forward upstream to evo-conduits.
