Bug Description

Binary package hint: pastebinit

I've got pastebinit 1.1-1 and it's using pastebin.com. I find paste.ubuntu.com cleaner (and more Ubuntu appropriate). It works fine with the -b http://paste.ubuntu.com argument, so I think this should be the default for pastebinit in Ubuntu.

+1, Mario, I agree.

I have kept an alias in my .bashrc for a few years now:

alias pastebinit='pastebinit -b http://paste.ubuntu.com'

This can easily be configured in ~/.pastebinit.xml. It's not going to become the default in Debian and thus it would unnecessarily introduce a delta which would require merges indefinitely instead of simple syncing. IMHO, the drawbacks would far outweigh the benefits.

Hi Rolf:

What about testing for LSB? For debian use paste.debian.net by default and on Ubuntu use paste.ubuntu.com and on other pastebin.com?

here's a patch that does exactly that behavior. it should work good for both Debian and Ubuntu.

Hey, thanks, that's great. I'll give it a spin and release the patch to Debian if things are working as expected. My python foo isn't as strong as it should be. I hope you don't mind me reconfirming the following points with you.

1) the package continues to work as expected with pastebin.com when the lsb-release package is not installed
2) a user-preference from ~/.pastebin.xml always overrides any default
