Bug Description
Binary package hint: firefox
10.10 Beta
Firefox 3.6.10
With multiple tabs open in Firefox, simply selecting a tab occasionally causes the tab to close.
Not sure if it's associated with another action or opening a certain file type within Firefox, as I can't force the problem to occur by opening a series of tabs and toggling between them. Rather, it just occurs when you least expect it.

Ok thanks. New profile up and running - I'll let you know. The problem
has occurred 2 - 3 more times on old profile since bug report but I
can't see anything special when it happens. I'll send .xsession-errors
if it happens again..

No problems with a new profile running for a couple of hours. Switched
back to old profile and had one tab closure. Gmail was open, then I
opened a blank tab, then I opened googlemaps from gmail tab, then the
blank tab disappeared when I tried to select it. Going back to new
profile now. Whatever problem is it started exactly the same time as
my upgrade to 10.10 Beta..

Hmm, the first tab closure just happened with the new profile. The
only change I made to the profile was to add 2 bookmarks, but
certainly no add-ons or plugins..

I found this in your .xsession-errors:
NOTE: child process received `Goodbye', closing down
Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x3c00085 (Mozilla Fi)
Window manager warning: meta_window_
which points to a firefox error. What window manager are you using (metacity, compiz)?
martin (braaart) wrote : | #9 |
Hi
Not sure about the window manager, how do I find out?

Hi Martin, your are running compiz if you have enabled visual effects:
System-
See if you can reproduce the bug with the clean profile and with visual effects turned off (set to "None").

Hi Alex
Visual Effects are OFF and I haven't had any instances of the problem
for a few days now with a clean profile.
I'll keep monitoring it..

Setting bug to confirmed as there seems to be enough information and the problem persists.
Martin, please add any additional information that you might find helpful.

It is NOT confined to times when googlemaps is open.
There seems to be some other weird behaviour going on where tabs also OPEN when there not supposed to. I'm not yet sure under what circumstances it's happening, but it's almost like clicking on something / going back / forward / or some other action is doing an inadvertent 'Open Link in a New Tab' and creating extra tabs when you don't want them. I'll report more if I get more of an idea what's happening..

Thank you for your bug report. I have been trying to reproduce the bug, but as you wrote it cannot be easily reproduced. Firefox bugs are often caused by plugins, themes etc. so I would ask you to please create a new and clean firefox profile as described here /wiki.ubuntu. com/MozillaTeam /Bugs#Try% 20with% 20a%20new% 20profile
https:/
Be sure not to delete your current profile.
Should the error occur again, please also attach the .xsession-errors file (located in your home directory),
Thank you!
