Bug Description

Binary package hint: apport

Running the command 'sudo apport-collect 654893' attempted to open a web page in firefox to authorise the application, and sat waiting for me to press 'enter'. But I got a dialogue from firefox saying that firefox was already running, and no suitable page was displayed. I had to ^C the apport-collect and then close firefox before the application would proceed as it intended.

The correct behaviour would have been to open a new tab in the copy of firefox already running.

Can you reproduce this anomaly at any time?

I don't know. I'd have to de-authorise apport-collect in order to try. How would I do that?

I believe that you just need to log out of launchpad before you run the program. Try it.

I just logged out & ran sudo apport-collect 654898 and did not get asked to validate. No page was opened on firefox, so the situation did not arise.

Hmmmm how about the apport config file in you home dir? Delete it and try running the command again.

sudo rm -r /home/your-user-name/.cache/apport

If that still doesn't clear the validation try removing/purging the whole program and reinstalling it.

sudo apt-get autoremove --purge apport

then reinstall it.........

sudo apt-get install apport

Then try running it again and see if it asks for validation.

The authorization is in Launchpad. You can revoke it by going to https://launchpad.net/~you/+oauth-tokens

the .cache/apport deletion seems to have been the trick.

sudo apport-collect 654898 produced the attached dialogue, so yes it is repeatable.

Hi, can you please run
gconftool --get /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command
in a terminal and post the output here?
Also, what happens if you run
gnome-open http://launchpad.net
? Thanks.

bob@Harvey12:~$ gconftool --get /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command
firefox %s
bob@Harvey12:~$

The second one opens a new tab at launchpad.net without dialogues

Sorry for the late response, I finally had some time to look at this again. What currently fails here isn't apport but Launchpad.login_with() from python-launchpadlib which is handles the credentials and can't seem to handle being run with sudo.
