Bug Description

Is this a known problem? Dapper 6.06/Gnome: when I insert a blank DVD+R, Nautilus pops open a window for ~1 second recognizing a blank DVD+R (which also appears on the desktop) then the window closes and the icon for the DVD+R disappears at the same time. This repeats every time I insert a blank DVD+R.

This occurs with kernels 2.6.15-27-386 and 2.6.15-26-386. However, kernel 2.6.15-25-386 works just fine. Nautilus recognizes and mounts the blank DVD+R (also appears on the Desktop) and waits for input. I have not seen any fixes for this on the Ubuntu forum, but numerous scattered questions about this.

If it makes a difference, my processor is an AMD K-7.

I have the same problem with Edgy 6.10, and with DVD-R. Nautilus is unable to mount, but I can burn using K3b.

Kernel is 2.6.17-10-386.

I also have had this problem since I upgraded my Ubuntu From 5.10 to 6.06. I now have 6.10 and have spent several evenings searching forums.
I can't use any kind of DVDs, data or movie, DVD-+R/RW. CDROMs in same drive work fine.
I found from some discussion that somebody resolved this with building new kernel.
I really hope that this would be in some upgrade soon!
