Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

When running edgy testing, I've been getting odd behavior from GDM. The system will seemingly boot fine, then when I should be seeing a ubuntu branded GDM, i see the gnome flowers. When I try to log in after that, I get a blank blue screen rather than a gnome session. The only way I seem to be able to get around this is by running a dpkg-reconfigure of gdm.

Thanks for your bug. Could you attach your /etc/gdm/gdm.conf and gdm.conf-custom files to the bug (replace any private data with some random text) to the bug?

The gdm.conf has a "GraphicalTheme=Human" which seems to be correct. Do you have anything to /var/log/syslog about that? Could you try with the Debug key set from gdmsetup?

I just realized that I attached the conf files from after a dpkg-reconfigure. So here are the ones from a straight boot.

And here's the gdm.conf-custom from that same boot.

that one has "GraphicalTheme=Human" too. Do you have edgy-gdm-themes installed? The artwork has been splitted and if you don't have ubuntu-desktop installed and didn't use the dist-upgrader tool it's likely you didn't get that new package installed

I really don't think this is actually a theme issue, i've got everything installed that you mention. After I read the description of bug #62342 I realized that was a better description of my problem.

Stephen McClain told me to do it... what he is reporting is the same bug as mine... there you will find more information, my configuration and log files and a way to partialy fix it. The problem aparently is not with the configuration, but something about the booting up of the system. Can you please take a look at my bug?
