Bug Description

Binary package hint: alacarte

Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy (german language):

Even if I start alacarte as administrator:

- it is not possible to to check boxes to show or hide menu entry
- It is not possible to drag an drop any menu.
- It is not possible to delede menu.

I' have tried to create a new entry for gvim (I can not check the symbole to have him shown) and as I wanted to fill the commando field alacarte crashes.

I have the bug file of the crash.

If you want it I can mail it.

grüße - Samuel

I can confirm that I can not add new entries (it goes through the process, ie lets you fill in all the details but doesn't add the entry) and disable or delete existing entries

I've found out why changes aren't being made when you add/edit/delete entries. The .local directory and it's sub directory are all owned by root with a mask or rwx------ so the user can not make amendments. I changed ownership to my username and I can make changes now.

Perfect! There is no problem anymore.

I'had the same kind of problem with a KDE program (kile) because of the .DCOPserver.

Now it's ok
Thanks

Thank you for reporting this bug. Marking this as confirmed. Were the owner settings made by default when you installed it? If this is the default settings after install than i think it needs to be fixed, That is why im not closing this yet.

Changed in alacarte:
status: Unconfirmed → Confirmed

Alacarte does not create .local as root, you need to find out what did it.

I have made a fresh instalation of Ubuntu last week with two ext3 partition one for / and one for /home (both formated). I've made nothing special. I think this problem of the owner settings are inherent to the installation of Ubuntu. If not, I can not explain why. sorry

I had the same problem on Feisty (upgraded from Edgy), but for me the solution wasn't in the .local directory, but in the .config directory.

IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/home/frans/.config/menus/applications.menu'

so after

sudo chown -R <user>:<user> .config

Alacarte worked as advertised.
