Bug Description

It seems the barbarian wares missed a graphic update:
http://wl.widelands.org/help/empire/wares/
http://wl.widelands.org/help/atlanteans/wares/
http://wl.widelands.org/help/barbarians/wares/

Many wares which are shared by all three tribes have different menu/idle icons, e.g. scythe, fish, water, pick, ores, hammer

Confirmed. All three tribes should probably use the same graphics for common items.
(Though, personally, I prefer the barbarian fish).

actually, those wares should be the very same to be tradable.

This bug is about the appearance, and this design decision is up to the elder of graphics. Chuck, your choice: one look or variation? and if so, which one look?

I will certainly review wares graphics in the game and in the wiki for all tribes.

This bug raises an interesting question:

Why can't wares (and possibly other graphics) that are common across the tribes be placed in one spot (e.g. the world folders) to avoid the duplication of identical files and thereby reduce the physical footprint (disk space and memory) of the game?

For that matter, why not place ALL wares in a single folder and differentiate by file name and/or the unique conf files those wares unique to a specific tribe? The same could be said for the bobs, as well.

Just my 2 cents. :)

IMHO - Regarding "one look" v.s. "unique looks between tribes":

I think that natural wares, like wood, ore, fish, etc., should definitely have a common graphic across the tribes.

However, man-made wares like armor, weapons and even tools could and probably should have a unique look to reflect the tribal identities.

2 more cents ;)

#3: there was some discussion of a META tribe, that is one tribe that contains all buildings, workers and ware definitions and only differentiate by conf files what one tribe can really build. This would get rid of a lot of clunk, like the global military sites, but it would offer other problems. Still it seems to me to be the best solution to get trading into the game eventually.

#4: I agree with that interpretation. But in the end, graphic style is your decision ;)

Thanks for the link. I think I may have just saved it from being expired on
launchpad. :)
