Bug Description

As reported on the forums http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1678974#post1678974 after adding a second kicker panel it is not possible to configure it. Right-clicking on the second panel and choosing "Configure panel..." brings up the configuration options for the first panel.

However, if you open ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc (e.g. in Kate) and then re-save this file a new drop-down list appears in the configuration window. It is now possible to select which panel to configure.

I have successfully reproduced this on a second desktop on the same computer. No access to second kubuntu. Steps are:

1. Right-click panel, select Add new panel -> Panel
2. Right-click on new panel, adjust settings (e.g. height) - original panel affected, new panel not changed
3. Alt-F2, touch ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc
4. Right-click on panel and configure - new drop down now showing choice of panels

I confirm this behavior. However, one does not need to open or edit kickerrc to make the drop-down list appear. You only have to restart kicker (dcop kicker kicker restart) to update the configuration options.

touch ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc also (amended bug description to reflec this) and is quicker than restarting kicker.

Had the same problem. I restored the default KDE configuration as describled in the Kubuntu FAQ (http://www.kubuntu.org/faq.php#konqueror),
sudo cp /usr/share/apps/konqueror/konqueror-orig.rc /usr/share/apps/konqueror/konqueror.rc

So kubuntu-specific configuration seemes to be the problem.

I'm also having this problem on Kubuntu Edgy - and the "touch kickerrc" hack really works.

Just found some possibly related problem(s):

<<< Panel position gets stuck >>>
1) Added a second panel and dragged it to the right-edge of my 2nd monitor and touched kickerrc.
2) I dragged the panel to the bottom of my 2nd monitor.
3) Configure panel worked for this new one, but every time I applied some changes, the panel returned to the right-edge of my monitor.

<<<Adding more panels requires further touching of kickerrc>>>
I've just deleted the second panel and created a new one afterwards. The dropdown-list was still there, but containing the settings of my old (2nd) panel - Changes made there had no effect on the 3rd panel.

Had to "touch kickerrc" again to have this panel configurable, too.

I faced this on Feisty.

dcop kicker kicker restart

Fixes it, but it doesn't recognise newly added panels. This process has to be repeated after every such activity.

The "touch" fix worked for me after I ran into this problem in Gutsy.

Fixed in Intrepid since Kicker is no more. (Replaced by Plasma)
