Bug Description

Binary package hint: usb-creator

Can't write IMG to usb stick anymore. The message "Installation failed" pops up immediately after I press the "Make startup disk" button.

(Could this be caused by the new kernel 2.6.32-27 or any other updates the came since 18 December to 30 December 2010?
Here are the updates:
libservlet2.5-java (6.0.24-2ubuntu1.4) to 6.0.24-2ubuntu1.5
rsyslog (4.2.0-2ubuntu8) to 4.2.0-2ubuntu8.1
linux-generic (2.6.32.26.28) to 2.6.32.27.29
linux-headers-generic (2.6.32.26.28) to 2.6.32.27.29
linux-image-generic (2.6.32.26.28) to 2.6.32.27.29
linux-libc-dev (2.6.32-26.48) to 2.6.32-27.49
linux-headers-2.6.32-27 (2.6.32-27.49)
linux-headers-2.6.32-27-generic (2.6.32-27.49)
linux-image-2.6.32-27-generic (2.6.32-27.49)
libgudev-1.0-0 (1:151-12.2) to 1:151-12.3
libudev0 (151-12.2) to 151-12.3
udev (151-12.2) to 151-12.3)

BTW, I noticed, that when you click on the "unmount" button in the nautilus , the disk disappears in the list of drives in left Nautilus panel. But if you open the Disk Utility, you will see that the usb stick is still recognized and the button "Safe Removal" is active, but the button "Mount Volume" is inactive. This is strange, because you can mount the volume neither via the Nautilus, nor via the Disk Utility, and at the same time the usb stick is still not safely removed.

Sorry, there is a mistake. Not sure that the usb-creator-gtk ever worked with img. (I used ImageWriter for img)

At least the release included in Ubuntu Maverick it does, so please if you can attach your ".cache/usb-creator.log" into your report we really appreciated.

Same error for me under 10.04. I can work around it by starting usb-creator-gtk in a root shell (after setting the DISPLAY variable correctly). I haven't got a .cache/usb-creator.log here.

My one contains

USBCreatorProcessException: mount: could not find any free loop device

Would be nice to have this in the popup. "Installation failed" is like "Well do you think I tell you what's wrong?! Waste your time searching, cause I don't even tell that the error message is in .cache/usb-creator.log".
